Incubating Talents to Raise Company's Competitiveness; Motivating Employees with Care Culture

Ms. Elaine Kong, the Senior HR Manager said CMHK cares about employees' career development and well-being. It has been widely recognized as an outstanding employer, receiving numerous employer awards over the past years.

Comprehensive Value-adding Training

CMHK is determined to provide high-quality products and services. Experiencing rapid growth in Hong Kong, CMHK now has 43 branches with 1,300 employees. To further enhance customer experience, the first flagship store opened in Sai Yeung Choi Street South in last November. CMHK emphasizes a caring culture, adopting various HR management measures to promote the culture. With the continuous effort, CMHK has received JobMarket's "Employer of Choice Award" for 3 consecutive years which is a good recognition of the company. Elaine said this refl ected the company's determination to be an outstanding employer.

"In Digital Age, CMHK has high expectations on employees' technical capabilities and employees are required to possess adequate knowledge of technology. However, the competition for talents is always keen in this industry. To maintain sufficient talents, CMHK trains and develops its own talents. The company promotes all-round training for both frontline and back-office staff. They are required to attend e-learning courses regularly and which encourages self-learning any time. Besides, CMHK invites different guest speakers to host seminars for various topics on the infl uence of AI in daily life and how to deal with changes and transformations."

Job Rotation for Employees' All-round Development

CMHK cares about employees' career development. With job rotation, employees can experience different positions for wider exposure. "With dual career ladders, employees can either develop their career by being promoted to managerial positions or experts which is equivalent to manager grade in their areas." She said the company values employees' opinion and try its best to understand employees' needs through different channels, such as through regular staff engagement survey or intranet.

CMHK rewards outstanding employees with the "Great Award" quarterly. There are large-scale award presentation ceremonies to show appreciation to our high performer, meanwhile, it allows them to have a stronger sense of recognition and pride. "We emphasize formality and rituals, therefore, we organize promotion ceremonies and invite the senior management to present certifi cates, unlike other companies where only internal promotion announcement will be issued. We live-broadcast the ceremony through UTV Mobile App to share happiness with those who cannot attend." Besides, CMHK highly values its brand image as one of the best employers in Hong Kong, and has gained the recognition as "Good MPF Employer" and "Caring Company". Last year, the newly established lactation room had been recognized by UNICEF's "Say Yes to Breastfeeding" scheme.

Caring Employees; Emphasizing Communication

CMHK has concrete measures to show its care to employees, such as introducing a staff canteen at the headquarters to provide lunch sets at HK$10-20. A place for employees to have lunch together facilitates staff interaction and enhances cohesiveness which can help retaining talents. "We distribute fruits regularly to show our care to their health. Employees can also apply for funds to form teams for sport activities such as football, badminton and basketball teams. We also organize other activities, like bowling competition and barbecue party. Employees will share these moments in social media, which helps promoting the company and recruiting new employees. "

Elaine said CMHK distributes gifts to employees during special festivals. Employees are entitled to half rest day in the Mid-Autumn Festival, Christmas Eve and New Year Eve. For frontline staff who are working during holidays, compensation leaves are offered. "The company offers birthday leaves and gifts, and organizes birthday parties for our staff who can give us their birthday wishes, which may be realized by lucky draw."

This year, the CMHK's volunteer team organized different voluntary services event and received overwhelming responses. "What youngsters need is not only a job, but also a sense of selfactualization and the opportunity to contribute to the society." In future, CMHK will continue to care about its employees, contribute to society and introduce more innovative products and services at the same time.
