Chong Hing Bank, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2018, has always considered employees its important assets. Apart from implementing various welfare policies to share its fruits of success with employees, the Bank creates multiple communication channels to enhance interaction among staff of different ranks and departments, and encourage them to voice their opinions to facilitate the Bank's business development.
Established in 1948, Chong Hing Bank is renowned in Hong Kong for its quality banking services. The Bank currently has 39 branches in Hong Kong, 3 branches and 4 sub-branches in the Mainland, 1 branch in Macau, and representative offices in Shanghai and San Francisco, and over 1,600 employees.
"Last year, we made enhancements to staff welfare, communication, remuneration and benefits to better attract, engage and retain talents," Ms Blanche Chan, Executive Vice President, Head of HR Division said. "The enhanced benefits include annual leave, paternity leave, and 16 weeks of full-paid maternity leave."
"We extend our care to staff members' families too. Other than providing staff's family members with medical protection, we arranged an Ocean Park Fun Day last year, and 3,000 staff and their family members joined the event to celebrate the Bank's 70th anniversary."
Chong Hing Bank held the first Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony in 2018 to recognise and reward loyal employees. "Eight employees had served the Bank for 40 to 44 years while two had even served the Bank for over 45 years. Mr. Zhang Zhaoxing, Chairman of Yuexiu Group, the major shareholder of Chong Hing Bank, and Chairman of Chong Hing Bank, attended the ceremony in Hong Kong. Together with Mr. Zong Jianxin, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of the Bank, Mr. Zhang presented the Awards to the employees to thank them for their years of support. It was a touching occasion!"
Welcoming Innovative Ideas Joining hands for a bright future
Besides reviewing welfare policies to attract and retain talents, Chong Hing Bank introduced new internal communication channels to boost engagement. Last year, the Bank established the "Bright Ideas" online platform to encourage staff to voice their opinions, and invited staff from different departments to join brainstorming sessions to express their innovative ideas about customer service, risk control, cost management and new products. "Nine brainstorming meetings were arranged and the staff members' active participation was encouraging!"
"Another initiative to strengthen internal communication and promote staff engagement is Skip Level Meetings for our Chief Executive to better understand the thoughts of staff who are not directly under him. This promulgated the culture that everyone's voice is heard and treasured. And for the participating staff, they could hear directly from our Chief Executive the Bank's strategic direction too."
Equipping Talents to Overcome Challenges Through Comprehensive Training
In 2018, the Bank organised a variety of training programmes covering management skills, communication strategies, stress management, risk control and other regulatory related knowledge. Orientation sessions were held to familiarise new staff with the Bank's culture and operation and to broaden their network. The Bank also initiated an "Education Subsidy Scheme" to encourage employees to strengthen their skills and knowledge, and take professional qualification examinations in work-related disciplines.
Ms Chan said, "With better welfare, remuneration, training and development opportunities, talents are retained at the Bank. By launching social events and communication platforms, cohesiveness among staff is strengthened!"
Lastly, Ms Chan thanked JobMarket for granting the Employer of Choice Award to Chong Hing Bank for 2 consecutive years. "Last year was the Bank's 70th anniversary. The Award brought a successful and joyous conclusion to the anniversary!"
